Missed calls

How to stop missing customer calls at your small business

You can't answer the phone with both hands in a sink, on a roof or in a client's hair. The calls still come in, and the caller moves on to the next number.

Start by counting

For one week, write down each call you didn't pick up, then check how many left a message. The gap between those two numbers is the work that went to someone else.

Make your voicemail do more

A short greeting helps: your business name, what to leave (name, number, what they need) and when you call back. Some callers still hang up without leaving anything, so treat voicemail as a backup, not the plan.

Call back quickly

A caller who reached you after someone else did is already comparing. If you can't answer, a quick call back or text when you're free keeps you in the running. Set a time, such as between jobs or at lunch, and stick to it.

Send calls to something that can answer

You can keep your number and forward calls you don't pick up. Where they go is up to you: a family member, a colleague, a live answering service or an AI answering service. Here is how forwarding works with Onda.

What an AI answering service does

With Onda, a call you don't pick up goes to an AI assistant. It says it is an AI, asks what the caller needs and takes their name, number and request. You get an email within seconds. Urgent calls, like active water or a lockout, are marked Priority. It does not promise prices or times your team has not set, and it is not a substitute for 911.
