Missed calls
Why callers hang up on voicemail, and what to do instead
You are on a job, the phone rings, and it goes to voicemail. Many callers do not leave a message. They go back to the search results and call the next business.
Why voicemail loses the call
Voicemail puts all the work on the caller. They have to decide what to say, remember to leave a number, and trust that someone will listen. Then they wait without knowing if anyone heard them.
When a message does come in, it is often missing something: no address, a number that cuts off, or just "call me back." You end up calling to ask the questions the message should have answered.
What an AI answering service does differently
With an AI answering service, a missed call is answered instead of ending at a beep. With Onda, it goes like this:
- It says what it is. The greeting tells the caller they are speaking with your business's AI assistant and that the call may be recorded.
- It asks one question at a time. What they need, their name, the best number to reach them, and the details your business needs, such as an address or a preferred time.
- It reads it back. Before saving, it repeats the details so the caller can confirm or correct them.
- It does not make promises for you. It takes the request. You confirm prices, times and bookings when you call back.
What lands in your inbox
Within seconds of the call, you get an email with the caller's name, number and what they need. Tap the number to call back.
Example
Priority. Leak under the kitchen sink, still dripping. Wants someone today.
Priya Patel · (213) 555-0142 · 123 Main St, Los Angeles
Urgent calls, like an active leak, are flagged Priority so you know who to call first. No voicemail box to dial into, and no audio to replay while you write things down.
Is it right for your shop?
It fits best when most of your calls are new customers asking for something: a repair, an appointment, a quote, a table. If you already pick up nearly all your calls yourself, you may not need it. If calls slip by while you work, it gives those callers a real answer.
Hear a sample call
The caller asks about a yearly maintenance plan. Onda takes the request without guessing a price.
In these sample calls, the caller is also an AI voice, on a real phone call. Clips are shortened: phone numbers and addresses were removed, and some pauses were trimmed. Names are made up.
Hear it before you decide
Call our demo plumbing company at (213) 451-5553. An AI answers, and the call may be recorded. The company is made up, so feel free to use a made-up name. Or listen to short sample calls on our site.
$199 a month. There is no monthly fee during the trial. One-time $99 setup. No annual contract.
